About

Paul is a professional painter and a member of the Oxford Art Society. He runs courses in oil painting for adults and teaches painting at the Marlborough Summer School. He writes for Leisure Painter magazine and sells his cards through Green Pebble Greetings Cards.

“Art is about memory. It is a way of capturing a fleeting moment and preserving it, sharing emotions with others”.

“ I trained in theater design at the Central School of Art and Design, London (now Central Saint Martin’s) and worked in Film and TV as a designer for twenty years, most notably for the BBC and RSC. I then, as a mature student, gained a PGCE from the Institute of Education and became an art teacher in schools. Most recently as Head of Art at Pinewood Prep School”.

He left full-time teaching in 2020 to offer his own courses in oil painting throughout the year.

“I am particularly interested in helping complete beginners and those new to oil paints. It is important to have hands on help and tailored demonstrations, but places that offer this have become harder to find”.

My most recent work is inspired by the nostalgia of the garden. I have fond memories of my grandfather’s garden and my father’s greenhouse. We make our mark on nature in a garden, we create spaces that we want to be in and yet it all reverts so quickly to the wild place that it wants to be.
