malcescine after klimt

Klimt was drawn to landscapes where shapes were stacked one upon another. He made very little attempt to show perspective or distance but used the landscape as pattern. All the areas of the composition are heavily outlined. In this he is responding to trends in 20th century painting and rejecting realism.
