THE MARBLE HALL HOLKHAM
This magnificent room was designed by Thomas Coke, Earl of Leicester based on ancient roman temples that he had seen on his grand tour of Italy. The marble is in fact alabaster from Staffordshire. Work on the alabaster here, and in other rooms in the house, took over twenty years to complete.
